Best Time To Visit

Dry Season: May - September

During these months the weather is warm and sunny, ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, surfing and exploring the beaches.

Wet Season: November - March

Heavy rainfall, particularly in December and January, can lead to flooding, landslides and rough seas, making outdoor activities less enjoyable and travel around the island more challenging.

Travel Tip - Diving/Surfing

For avid divers, the best time for diving is from May to October. Try and avoid diving from November to March as sea conditions can be less predictable. For surfers, the best time to surf in Lombok is between May and October when waves are more impressive.

Accommodation

There are tons of budget friendly places to stay, however to help you with your travel planning I have included some of my favourites below.

Transportation | Getting Around

Taxi

I would recommend downloading the app ‘Grab’ which is essentially Asia’s version of Uber. It is a widley used and conventient transportation service offering a reliable and cheap way of getting around. This is my go to option when making short journeys. It is always best to book any journey through the app so that the trip is logged and fixed price is paid.

You can download the Grab App here.

Another good taxi company in Indonesia is called BlueBird. You can download the app here.

Gojek is another popular ride-hailing service used in Lombok, similar to Grab. Download the Gojek App here.

Ferry

Getting to Lombok by ferry is possible if you’re travelling from nearby Indonesian islands.

The most common ferry route is a public ferry from Padangbai in Bali to Lembar in Lombok. The journey takes 4-5 hours and range from 50’000 - 100’000 IDR (£3-5).

Alternatively, taking a fast boat is quicker but costs between 300’000 - 500’000 IDR (£15 - 25).

Taking a ferry of fast boat from Lombok to the Gili Islands, prices typically range from 150’000 - 300’000 IDR (£15-25) for a one way trip.

Plane

Lombok's main airport is Lombok International Airport (LOP) and is located in Praya, Central Lombok. A flight from Bali only takes 30 minutes.

To organise a Grab ride to your accommodation when arriving in Lombok, open the Grab App to get directions to the Grab Lounge Area. This is the only place grab cars can pick people up.

Motorbike Rental

Renting a motorbike is a great way to explore the island. Check out reviews to ensure the rental place is reliable. Some places may ask to see your driving license. Always always always wear a helmet and take out travel insurance - the driving in Indonesia is chaotic and unpredictable!
